Stratigic Air Command Patch / SAC / U.S. Air Force / Military / Cold War Era

Description

This is a genuine U.S. Air Force military patch. It came fresh from a box dated 4/79. It is a full color patch on a khaki background with cut edges. All are new from old stock and were never issued. This is a real and inexpensive piece of Cold War history. I have several, so the one pictured may not be the one you get, but all are of equal condition. The patch measures approximately 3 inches in height by 3 1/8 inches wide.
A short history of the Stratigic Air Command:
The Stratigic Air Command or SAC evolved from the Continental Air Forces from WWII. On March 21, 1946, the U.S. Army Air Force underwent a major reorginization. Three combat commands were activated. They were the Stratigic Air Command, the Tactical Air Command and the Air Defense Command. SAC was headquartered at Bolling Field in Washington, D. C.
The commanding general of the Army Air Forces, General Carl Spaatz described  SAC's role as best...
"be prepared to conduct long-range offensive operations in any part of the world, either independently or in co-operation with land and naval forces; to conduct maximum-range reconnaissance over land or sea, either independently or in co-operation with land and naval forces; to provide combat units capable of intense and sustained combat operations employing the latest and most advanced weapons; to train units and personnel of the maintenance of the Strategic Forces in all parts of the world; to perform such special missions as the Commanding General Army Air forces may direct."
On September 16, 1947, the United States Air Force was established. It was no longer part of the United States Army. SAC and the other commands were now under the control of the newly formed United States Air Force. SAC would be alerted not long after this took place.
On June 22, 1948, the Soviet Union cut off all ground routes allowing the Allies in or out of Berlin. This was a clear act of defience by the Soviets. They were testing the resolve of the Allies. SAC went into action and began to mass upon Europe. The Soviets did not know how many planes may be carrying atomic bombs. This uncertanty kept the Soviets from bringing their troops into Europe. This would be a cat and mouse game that the U.S. and Soviets would play until 1991, when the Soviet Union was dissolved.
The Stratigic Air Command also saw action in Korea, Vietnam and the first Gulf War. It was inactivated on June 1, 1992. Its personnel and equipment were absorbed by the Air Combat Command and the Air Mobility Command.

* If an item is returned to me because the address provided was not correct or if the buyer refuses a shipment or does not pick it up from the post office, the buyer will be responsible for paying shipping fees to have the package re-shipped to them.
* All items are shipped with a tracking number. This allows the buyer or seller to watch an item during transit and determine its status (Shipped, In Transit, Delivered).
* My shipping prices are actual quotes from the United States Postal Service for the item that you won in the auction. I don't inflate my shipping prices to try and make an extra buck. Also, I do not charge a handling fee. All items are shipped USPS Priority Mail or First Class Mail unless otherwise stated. I mail only to the address that is listed with PayPal to help prevent any fraud from occurring. I am sorry if this is an inconvenience, but I cannot make any exceptions. I do combine shipping if you purchase multiple items on the same day or before I ship your package (which is usually within 24 hours after the auction closes). Ebay no longer requires postal insurance nor allows me to charge for it. Contact me if this is an issue. The price can be added in the total shipping fee if wanted. This is for the buyer to decide.
All shipping quotes are for shipping within the USA. Shipping outside of the USA is extra and you would need to email me for an international postal quote. Please inquire prior to committing to buy an item, as shipping is expensive.
* All items are guaranteed to be as described in my listing. Refunds will be gladly issued if the item received is materially different than was listed. Clothing sizes included in my listings are those provided for a specific product by their manufacturer. Please contact me prior to making any return. Items must be returned and received by me within 30 days of original delivery date or the sale is considered final. There will be no refunds after the initial 30 day period. The item must be in the same condition as when it was shipped by me and is subject to inspection prior to the issuance of a refund. Tools carry a specific manufacturers warranty, so you will have to deal directly with the manufacturer, if there is an issue with their product not working properly. This also applies to their lifetime warranty. I assume no liability for items lost or damaged in transit. Postage is non-refundable.
* Virginia residents must include state sales tax (6%) with their payment.
