    Description

This early out-of-print book is a collector’s item in itself.  In addition to designer and artist signature marks, this book covers Rookwood pottery shapes including assigned shape design numbers.
THE SECOND BOOK OF ROOKWOOD POTTERY – With Complete Art Pottery Shape Catalogs No. 1 and No. 2 with over 4,000 Rookwood Shapes Illustrated
by Herbert Peck, privately published, AZ, 1985.
This book “brings you many facts not found in the original history of Rookwood as published by Crown in 1968…such as who created the now famous R-P trademark several years before it was adopted by the pottery…or why Karl Langenbeck was discharged by Mr. Taylor and replaced by “W.S.C.” as Rookwood’s technical director…or the factual story of Mrs. Storer’s gift of the pottery to Mr. Taylor who was her manager (rather than her partner) when she decided to dispose of her interest.  And most importantly it contains the complete record of all Rookwood shapes from No. 1, produced in 1880, to No. 7301, the last numbered shape made in 1967 in Starkville, Miss., when production was suspended.  Included are over 4,000 Rookwood shapes – each illustrated and described – a valuable record including copies of more than 100 photographs from the “Original Shape Record Book” and dating before the year 1883…A copy of Stanley Burt’s holographic catalog of the 2,292 pieces of Rookwood that were in custody of the Cincinnati Art Museum in 1916 was among the pieces of original source material that have contributed to the information found in this second book of Rookwood pottery.”
8.75” x 11.25” hardback with dust cover in very good condition.  185 pages.
