Description
Lavishly illustrated in color and black-and-white, this scarce out-of-print book provides a scholarly study of New Martinsville art glass produced between 1900-1944 including information on values.NEW MARTINSVILLE GLASS, 1900-1944
by James Measell, Antique Publications, OH, 1994.
Here is a revised, enlarged edition of two previous publications by Everett R. and Addie R. Miller, published in 1972 and 1975. It is the first to focus on the earlier history of the enterprise. 511 items are pictured in color and identified. Approximately 1,000 other items are pictured in reproduced sales advertisements and catalog reprinted pages. The narrative is rich and covers in-depth the history and production of New Martinsville glass for the period 1900-1944. Chapter topics include: New Martinsville Glass, 1900-1907, the Fisher years, the Clarke years, description of covers, color plates, the McEldowney years, receivership and renaissance, and New Martinsville glass, 1938-1944. Based on additional research at the Corning Museum of Glass, as well as work with many collectors, the author has assembled groups for identification and presented these in great color photos; access to turn-of-the century catalogs also gives this book great authority. If you are a collector, dealer, or historian of antique American art glass you will find this book a most welcome addition to the reference shelf.
