Description
This pendent is fashioned from a commemorative Queen's Silver Jubilee crown piece. These large coins were issued in 1977 in Britain to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II taking the throne, after the death of her father, George IV, in 1952. In the actual celebration, Queen Elizabeth did not ride a horse, as depicted on the coin - she was taken from Buckingham Palace in an ornate horse-drawn carriage through the London streets, dressed in a rather shocking bright pink outfit. These coins are relatively common in England - I had one in my childhood coin collection, but these beautifully colorized enameled pendants are hard to find. This one is banded in silver and the colors are especially vivid. The pendant has a diameter of roughly 1 5/8".A rich and festive piece of British history.
