Lift the lever up and the switch turns off - and the lever stays up
This microswitch attaches to the float in your condensate pump. As water gathers in the pan, the float rises. When the float gets high enough, this switch activates, which causes the pump to drain the condensate pan. A minute later, when the water level goes down, the float drops, and this switch shuts off the pump. Magic!
What prevents your pump from quickly turning on and off when a small amount of water gathers in the pan? Well, like your pump's original switch, this has a bit of mechanical overshoot (hysteresis), due to its latching nature. That's why you don't want to use an ordinary (nonlatching) microswitch!
Some condensate pumps also have an overflow safety switch, attached to a second float, which operates if too much water gathers in the pan. (like if the first switch fails, or the pump jams, or the planet Saturn falls into the Atlantic). That may sound an alarm or shut off the furnace/air-conditioner/dehumidifier/time-machine. That safety switch is a different shape from this guy.
Condensate Pump Aficionados will appreciate its 12-gram switching force, as well as its luxuriously polished stainless steel lever arm which includes a genuine 4x6mm rectangular hole. The two robust electrical connections have been carefully crafted into shiny 2.8x7mm tabs.
