From the author: The late Thomas Mittler was a passionate scrimshaw collector. Several years ago he asked me to write a book about his collection. Sadly, he did not live to realize its fruition. Through the Eyes of a Collector is an attempt to spread one man's enthusiasm for the art of scrimshaw, and to illuminate the range and depth of his distinctive collection. All of the pieces are fully described and illustrated.
