    Artfully calibrated
Graphic ring with pearl, diamonds & sapphires, around 1910
    description
Calibrated colored stones, that is to say ground in given shapes, were a specialty of the early 20th century. Century. In the combination of colored stones with diamonds, people loved the striking contrast effects of light and dark, which emphasized the geometric designs again. Set-in sapphires and rose-cut diamonds also structure this ring in a pattern of contrasting stripes. A large, warm, shimmering pearl in the center breaks this cool geometry both materially and formally. The ring head shines white in platinum. Delicate leaf elements lead over to a narrow, golden ring band, the shoulders of which are also covered with platinum. The ring makes use of the effective juxtaposition of different shapes and materials and combines them into an exciting design that pleases with its lightness and freshness. See. on the fashion of calibrated jewels in the early 19th century. Century David Bennet and Daniela Mascetti: Understanding Jewelery, Woodbridge 2010, p. 287, also p. 282f. among others
